Novice DatePost 1: The decision to dabble
Everybody, or single everybodies, seem to be into online chatting or dating. I have several sets of friends who met online and have been together or married for years. Others seem to work through a serious of shorter relationships, the supply of rebound guys or girls seemingly unending. With the busy lives we lead, I can understand the attraction of joining one of the host of people-connecting services out in cyberspace.
With plans to move back to South Australia, probably Adelaide, and being a busy single mum thrown into the mix, I decided to google the options. Fortunately most of the sites let you peruse the potential before officially signing on. I decided on one, the pages looked manageable and the talent looked interesting. The only niggle was the website’s banner that mentioned something about being determined to succeed in ‘love’ or some such phrase. I was not out to find my ‘soul mate’, I just wanted some proper adult email conversation that might lead to a good dinner when I got back to the big island. Well, perhaps not one dinner, but a week of dinners, seven nights back-to-back, with seven different dates. I laid myself the challenge.
Now here is the thing, whilst my heart might have moved back, my body was still a good 24-hour plane ride away, so where would I say my location was? I left Australia over 10 years ago and had lived in or on the fringes of Europe since then. I was living between 2 busy cities, working in both, and providing my 3-year old daughter with a stimulating but at times confusing life. Hence the return to the place that I had always referred to as ‘home’.
A second decision was whether I would pinpoint Adelaide or the small country village less than an hour away where I had purchased a property. I opted for the latter. The big decisions made I worked on the rest of the profile that punters would see (coming in next post).
